REMS can help distinguish inflammatory joint disorders from more common mechanical disorders. GALS and REMS were treated as valid tools for musculoskeletal screening in the study. Probable musculoskeletal disease was identified through a tiered screening process using GALS followed by REMS. A positive REMS result indicated a probable musculoskeletal disorder or arthritis. Additional blood tests and X-rays were arranged after a positive REMS result when indicated.
