Genetic Cardiovascular Risk

Genotypes that predispose to elevated LDL in modern sedentary lifestyles may have been advantageous for lipid transport and immune defense in ancestral conditions. ApoE4 carriers and individuals with PCSK9 mutations are commonly studied through cardiovascular risk. The article presents ApoE4 and PCSK9-related risks as context-dependent on modern pro-inflammatory diet and environment. Understanding genetic variants in context directs intervention toward modifiable environmental factors rather than only suppressing a number. ApoE genotype and PCSK9 mutation screening are included as genetic risk context where appropriate.
