Geriatric Nursing Education

Sri Lanka does not recognise gerontological nursing as a central competency in the national nursing education framework. Geriatric content was embedded within Adult Nursing and received only a few hours of coverage. Students said the current curriculum did not adequately prepare them for geriatric care. Students identified content gaps in cognitive impairment, psychological support, nasogastric feeding, communication, and gerontological technology. Students recommended a dedicated geriatric nursing module beginning from the first year.
