The non-linear model rejects the finite equilibrium underlying the Gompertz-Makeham prediction in the constant-rate point-mass case. Near a Wall of Death, the hazard accelerates faster than exponentially rather than following ordinary Gompertz-Makeham form. Charlesworth's linear model predicts a Gompertz-Makeham mortality schedule under constant mutation rates, constant adult hazards, and constant fertility after maturity. Even a very small positive constant mutation rate cannot be balanced by natural selection under free recombination in the non-linear model.
