Haemoglobinopathies

Sickle cell trait was the most common condition measured in the study. The study found a substantial haemoglobinopathy burden among indigenous populations in Odisha. The prevalence estimates aligned with prior evidence that haemoglobinopathies are common among tribal communities. Haemoglobinopathies are common inherited blood disorders with major public health implications. The study recommends targeted screening, health education, genetic counselling, stronger healthcare integration, and action on socioeconomic inequities to reduce haemoglobinopathy burden.
