Spermidine appears to increase hair follicle activity, hair length, growth rate, and density. Populations with higher dietary polyamine intake are described as having thicker hair, better hair quality, and less hair loss. A significant hair growth effect was seen over about six weeks using a standard dose of approximately 1 mg of spermidine per day. Spermidine's hair growth effect is mechanistically linked to epithelial stem cell activity. Oral spermidine use is preferred over topical application because the effect is thought to come from inside-out stem cell support, and whether it can be absorbed through the scalp is unknown.
