After adjustment, higher Skill and Technique Acquisition and Self-Monitoring and Insight were associated with better quality of life, but the association for Health Services Navigation did not persist. Disease-specific quality of life improved on both physical and emotional HeartQoL subscales. Generic health status improved across all EQ-5D-5L dimensions, EQ-VAS, and the EQ-5D-5L index score. Self-management may benefit well-being in advanced cancer, particularly through associations with fewer depressive symptoms and better quality of life. Chronic heart failure was modestly associated with better HRQoL (beta = 0.02, p = 0.042), possibly because patients adapt psychologically to living with a long-standing diagnosis.
