Health Worker Capacity-Building

The review defines capacity building as structured activity intended to strengthen PHC workers' knowledge, skills, attitudes, or organisational support to improve service quality. Capacity-building initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa are described as fragmented and often disease-specific, short-term, or poorly integrated into health systems. The review treats capacity building as an important strategy for improving PHC implementation because a skilled and supported workforce is essential for PHC and UHC. The protocol includes capacity-building approaches such as training, mentorship, coaching, supportive supervision, digital learning, peer learning, and blended strategies.
