Health Workforce

The presence of trained health providers available around the clock was associated with a 9% higher GMP readiness score. Task-sharing was presented as a major enabler for sustaining paediatric surgical services where specialists are scarce. Facilities offering GM services 2–3 weeks per month had a 12% higher readiness score than those offering it only once per month. Trained GM staff coverage was very low in Afghanistan at 12% and Nepal at 19.8%, rising to 60.2% in the best-performing country. Health workforce impacts were among the most consistently reported themes. Mental health impacts on the health workforce are underexplored despite being noted in the literature. Evidence from Rwanda is cited to support community health worker training as a contributor to lower maternal and neonatal mortality. Adequate, qualified, motivated, and empowered health workers are foundational to functional health systems and universal health coverage. Flooded and damaged roads reduced workforce availability by stopping staff from reaching workplaces.
