Women tended to trust cardiologists but felt less secure with other specialties when CHD-specific knowledge was limited. Many women with CHD received inconsistent or contradictory reproductive advice from healthcare professionals. Absent discussion of contraception or pregnancy in relation to CHD contributed to unplanned pregnancies and avoidable cardiac risk. The review recommends collaborative care involving women, partners where appropriate, cardiology teams and reproductive health professionals.
