Combining HRVBT with APA has previously been feasible and effective in HM patients after acute treatments. HRVBT is a relaxation technique that uses real-time feedback on autonomic nervous system functioning through heart rate variability. HRVBT is proposed to improve cardiorespiratory balance, regulate autonomic activity, and reduce inflammation through vagal nerve activity. HRVBT centers on controlled breathing at about six breath cycles per minute. In APAER-H, the first HRVBT session is supervised and later sessions are self-conducted.
