Hip Clunking

Audible hip clunking during movement is difficult to assign to a single cause. A hip clunk may occur when tendons or soft tissue structures move across other structures and create sound. Fluid shifting within joints or tissues can contribute to hip clicks or clunks. Hip clunking becomes more concerning when it is consistently associated with pain. Hip noise alone is usually not a major concern. Persistent painful clunking after conservative movement and capacity work may need medical evaluation.
