Age-standardized adult HIV prevalence of 5.58% in SchistoTrack communities closely matches the Uganda national UPHIA 2020–2021 estimate of 5.8%. Prior HIV prevalence estimates of 15–40% in Ugandan fishing communities were based on Lake Victoria communities and may not apply to River Nile and Lake Albert settings. HIV prevalence in children under 15 was low at 1.19%. The lower apparent HIV prevalence among fishing activity participants is largely explained by the group being 91.3% male, not by genuinely lower risk. Female adults had significantly higher HIV prevalence than male adults in the SchistoTrack cohort.
