nPEP and PrEP are established and effective HIV prevention methods that remain underused. Only 65% of young people aged 15-24 living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa know their HIV status, compared with 84% of older adults. Relatively few HIV prevention decision aids have been evaluated despite expanding prevention options. The primary outcome is HIV/STI prevention intervention response measured through unprotected sex days, number of sexual partners, and positive STI. Globally, 7,800 young people aged 15-24 acquire HIV each week, and 25% of these infections occur among African women. HIV prevention service uptake is suboptimal among young people. Youth aged 13 to 24 are treated as a key HIV/STI prevention population because HIV/STI and syndemic risk behaviours are elevated during this developmental period. The protocol plans a secondary analysis of six clinical trials focused on behavioural HIV/STI and syndemic prevention interventions for high-risk youth.
