Across all study participants, 95.7% rated HPV self-sampling a positive experience. 87.3% of participants preferred HPV self-sampling over clinician-performed screening for their next visit. Self-sampling can broaden access to screening, particularly for underserved or hard-to-reach populations. HPV testing on self-collected samples has been analytically and clinically validated, and sample biostability has been established. In Denmark's Capital Region, HPV self-sampling has been offered to screening non-responders since 2017, including during the COVID-19 pandemic. Women frequently report uncertainty about device reliability and a lack of confidence in performing sampling correctly. HPV self-sampling is an increasingly viable alternative to clinician-collected cervical specimens and supports the WHO target of eliminating cervical cancer.
