HSE Spark was originally developed to support, promote, and recognise innovation among junior doctors within the Irish public health system. By 2019, HSE Spark had expanded its target audience beyond junior doctors to include nurses, midwives, and health and social care professionals through new partnerships. HSE Spark's scope means that not all frontline innovators within the wider Irish HSE will be included in the study. HSE Spark is an Irish public healthcare innovation programme that supports frontline healthcare professionals to contribute to the sextuple aims of healthcare. HSE Spark identified a need to evaluate staff experience, understand value provided, identify unmet needs, and strengthen future supports due to the growth of its innovator network. In 2024, HSE Spark recorded 2,129 engagements across its innovation initiatives.
