Human Models

Infants do not gaze-follow robots or animals in the same way they follow humans. Meltzoff interprets newborns as recognizing human caregivers as the same kind of being. Infants appear to distinguish humans from non-humans as relevant models before having a developed concept of self. Mimetic desire depends on the model being socially meaningful.
