Hyperbolic Tapering

Participants valued drug-specific tapering plans because they made stopping concrete and trackable. Few participants completed the very low dose stages required for full hyperbolic tapering. Hyperbolic tapering uses progressively smaller dose reductions to reduce withdrawal during antidepressant discontinuation. The tapering plans allowed participants to slow down, pause, or return to a prior dose. Implementing hyperbolic tapering in primary care is uncommon partly because required tiny doses are rarely manufactured.
