Hyperhidrosis is a condition of excessive, uncontrolled sweating beyond what the body requires for thermoregulation. Hyperhidrosis is defined as too much sweating, and the core issue is not the existence of sweat but why the body is producing it excessively. The root cause of hyperhidrosis is overactivity of the sympathetic nervous system. Excessive sweating is a sign that something in the body is not regulating properly. Improving vagal tone is a direct approach to reducing the sympathetic over-activation that causes hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis can result when the stress response remains overactive. Surgically cutting the sympathetic nerve is a recognized conventional intervention for hyperhidrosis.
