Among patients with hypertension, 85.2% were prescribed at least one guideline-directed antihypertensive agent. Controlled hypertension was independently associated with higher self-rated health, but its effect was modest compared with lifestyle and socioeconomic variables. Hypertension was the most common chronic condition in the cohort, affecting 46.4% of the 23,980 patients. Hypertension prevalence reached 97.9% in the multimorbidity cohort, reflecting its role as a major driver of AF development. The 2017 ACC/AHA guideline lowered the hypertension threshold to systolic blood pressure 130 mm Hg or diastolic blood pressure 80 mm Hg.
