The pooled hypertension prevalence was higher among non-pregnant women than pregnant women. Country-level hypertension prevalence varied substantially across the included countries. Cote d'Ivoire and Bangladesh had consistently high hypertension prevalence across pregnant and non-pregnant women. Hypertension was defined as systolic blood pressure of at least 140 mm Hg or diastolic blood pressure of at least 90 mm Hg. The study examined hypertension among women aged 15-49 in 21 low-income and middle-income countries using DHS data from 2013 to 2023.
