Iatrogenic disease is the third leading cause of death in the United States, behind heart disease and cancer. Approximately 30% of iatrogenic deaths are attributable to medication errors. Activated charcoal can mitigate adverse reactions from pharmaceutical overload by adsorbing excess drug compounds.
