The study was a population-based cross-sectional study in 14 tribal-dominated districts of Odisha. The haemoglobinopathy analysis included 8,774 individuals aged 11 months to 99 years. Eligible participants were officially recognised members of notified Scheduled Tribes and permanent residents of the study area. The study’s large population-based design improves representativeness and generalisability for indigenous populations in the region. Odisha has one of India’s largest tribal populations and a known high burden of haemoglobinopathies.
