CRP, ESR, and SKLC were shared signals across both LCA and LASSO scores. For subclinical inflammation, hsCRP is preferred over standard CRP due to higher sensitivity. NLR and absolute neutrophil count are established systemic inflammatory response markers and prognostic indicators across several solid tumours. A March 2024 study found each 1-unit increase in hsCRP corresponded to a 10% increase in odds of depressive symptoms. A CRP level exceeding 3 mg/L has been associated with depressive symptoms in research studies. SKLC has received comparatively little study outside multiple myeloma. Elevated homocysteine indicates B12/folate deficiency and vascular inflammation. The appearance of SKLC in both scores was biologically rationalized by links between free light chains, inflammation, immune activation, and cancer development. Free light chains may contribute to pro-tumorigenic effects through mast cell activation and inflammatory mediator secretion.
