The first session lasts 90 minutes and later sessions last 60 minutes. A certified Tai Chi for Health instructor will deliver two 60-minute sessions per week for 12 weeks in aged care homes. Participants receive weekly homework and are encouraged to spend up to one hour per week practising skills and completing workbook tasks. SVCC begins after ICU transfer and is administered three times daily. SVCC ends after the endotracheal tube is removed. Each SVCC session is intended to last 20 minutes, with pausing or stopping allowed for adverse reactions or discontinuation requests. Treatment fidelity is assessed for 10% of audio-recorded sessions against the manual using a standardised schedule. The therapy is delivered by AHPRA-registered psychologists with additional ACT training. Sessions can be delivered by telehealth or face-to-face at Austin Hospital. Warm-ups will target mobility and flexibility in the neck, shoulders, spine, hips, knees, and ankles. Sessions will use the Stepwise Progressive Teaching Method and include a welcome, warm-up, Tai Chi form practice, and cool-down.
