The bottom position is held for a chosen duration, with a five-count given as an example. The contraction should be held for about 45 to 60 seconds before relaxing. The pause forces muscular control and tension in the working leg, making the exercise more demanding. The ball squeeze and palm press contractions must be maintained throughout the entire drill without dropping. The exercise uses an isometric contraction. During the isometric contraction, ankle muscles work against resistance without ankle movement. Isometric tension through the inner thighs and hands serves as the foundation for spinal lengthening and glute engagement. The isometric tension must not be released at any point during the drill.
