Minimally invasive oesophagectomy has reduced perioperative morbidity compared with open surgery. Vagotomy is an obligatory part of oncologic oesophagectomy and disrupts pyloric sphincter control and antro-duodenal motility. Surgical resection is the cornerstone curative treatment for localised oesophageal carcinoma.
