Kidney Function Testing

BUN and creatinine biomarkers are valuable for early detection because early-stage kidney problems may be asymptomatic. Regular monitoring is important for patients with prior abnormal kidney function, kidney disease, kidney-affecting medications, or kidney transplant history. Testing is especially important for people at high risk of kidney disease, including those with diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease history, heart disease, age over 50, smoking, or obesity. BUN and creatinine testing is indicated when symptoms suggest kidney dysfunction.
