The hazard from live baby octopus is physical, not toxicological. Live baby octopus suction cups can adhere to the mouth, throat, or airway during chewing, causing mechanical asphyxiation. Deaths from live octopus consumption have been documented in people who did not chew thoroughly or swallowed too quickly.
