Laryngospasm

Laryngospasm — a spasm of the larynx — is a direct cause of dry cough. Low blood calcium (hypocalcemia) is one of the root causes of laryngospasm. Hypocalcemia disrupts nerve signal transmission in the throat, causing misfiring of the cough reflex because the throat is rich in nerve endings.
