The exercise combines a side lunge with an opposite-direction reach to encourage the hip to move back. The arm reach pushes the hip back, creating additional stretch through the back side of the hip. The exercise begins from a normal standing position with enough space to step side to side. When space permits, the movement can be performed as a continuous alternating side-to-side dynamic pattern. Lateral lunges with reach are a dynamic way to stretch the groin muscles while also training a shift into the hips.
