The Life-Span Study of Hiroshima and Nagasaki atom-bomb survivors was used as a long-term analogue for acute exogenous damage. The phenomenological model matched the Life-Span Study hazard structure as excess relative risk declining with age at exposure and linear in dose. The Life-Span Study followed about 120,000 exposed people for more than 50 years. The Life-Span Study estimate corresponding to alpha was consistent with the model alpha value.
