LAIB eliminates the need for daily or frequent medication dispensing. Service users report LAIB can increase freedom, autonomy, travel flexibility, normality, and reduce stigma. LAIB may improve treatment retention by maintaining controlled steady-state buprenorphine levels and reducing visit burden. Some studies associate LAIB with improved quality of life, increased employment opportunities, and higher treatment satisfaction. The long-term effectiveness of LAIB relative to oral formulations remains unclear. LAIB provides sustained buprenorphine release through a subcutaneous depot injection over an extended period. Some service users feel disconnected, less engaged, or ambivalent toward LAIB despite its benefits.
