Participants in the second tertile of low-fat dairy intake had 51% marginally lower odds of metabolically unhealthy status, but this association did not reach conventional statistical significance (p=0.08). A prior study in overweight and obese adolescents found that higher low-fat dairy intake was associated with lower risk of the metabolically unhealthy phenotype, while higher high-fat dairy intake increased risk. Low-fat dairy products in this study included skimmed or fat-free milk, all low-fat yoghurts, plain yoghurt, dough, kashk, and all cheeses except cream cheese.
