Future studies should standardize incidental finding classification, urgency definitions, and reporting of whether recommended interventions were completed. Evidence is lacking on whether immediate intervention improves patient-relevant outcomes for many incidental findings compared with delayed or no intervention. Implementation of recommended interventions for incidental findings was inconsistent across studies. Management of incidental findings requires reliable interpretation, documentation, disclosure, risk-based work-up, and treatment when appropriate.
