The open-mouth position is held for about 30 seconds. No previous study has specifically connected MM-derived mouth opening to quality-of-life changes or confirmed it as an objective marker of surgical effectiveness. Prior work found that post-adenotonsillectomy changes in respiratory effort-related arousal correlated with changes in mandibular movement duration and index. JAWAC collects mouth-opening magnitude, duration, respiratory effort indices, and arousal-linked mandibular events alongside PSG. After moving the jaw forward, the mouth should open in a controlled way without losing tongue position. The jaw should move forward while the whole tongue remains on the roof of the mouth. Mandibular movement is presented as a validated measure of respiratory effort. The JAWAC signal provides continuous real-time tracking of mouth opening during respiratory and arousal events. Jaw movement is part of the exercise because the mouth is opened while the tongue stays on the roof of the mouth. The person should try to open the mouth as far as possible while maintaining the tongue position. The exercise sequence includes holding the forward jaw position before opening the mouth as much as p…
