MASTER-PPI is intended to support a more holistic and equitable understanding of what it means to resource meaningful PPI. MASTER-PPI stands for Mapping the Economic and Social Tangible and Emotional Resources of Patient and Public Involvement. MASTER-PPI includes visible financial expenditures as well as less visible elements such as emotional labour, time, governance demands, administrative processes, and experiential burdens. The MASTER-PPI framework aims to provide structured guidance for identifying, categorising, and understanding the full spectrum of PPI costs. The scoping review findings will be used to refine the MASTER-PPI framework so that future stroke research can better recognise and plan for the full costs of PPI. MASTER-PPI is expected to be useful for researchers, funders, NGOs, stroke support organisations, and policymakers who require or promote PPI but may provide limited clarity on the resources needed.
