Measurement

Available measurement tools do not fully combine activity level with the timing dimension central to early mobilisation. Time from arrival in postoperative care to a mobilisation goal can be measured in minutes or hours. Empirical referents for early mobilisation include observable indicators showing that mobilisation has occurred. Wearable devices can measure posture and movement, including sitting, lying, standing, stepping, and step count. Measurement is central because labs, wearable data, symptoms, records, and goals determine the order of operations. Wearable devices and uploaded historical labs are used to consolidate data, correlate trends, and generate more comprehensive reports. All participants will wear Temp U loggers to measure temperature and humidity. Gestational age will be confirmed by ultrasound crown-rump length using INTERGROWTH-21st standards. The subcohort will use Fitbit smartwatches and Thermochron i-Buttons for intensive physiological and skin temperature monitoring.
