Complete, consistent, accurate, and timely data helps policymakers identify service gaps, design targeted interventions, and monitor progress toward Universal Health Coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals. Quality routine health data is central to health system goals such as responsiveness, equity, efficiency, and improved health outcomes. Crisis intervention is medically valuable when trauma or life-threatening illness is present. When the body returns to normal function, it can correct many chronic symptoms itself unless progression has gone too far. The article describes much of what is commonly called health care as crisis intervention and symptom treatment.
