Among medical students, females scored higher than males on global IQoL, psychological well-being, and vitality. Medical students had higher psychological well-being but lower perceived functional capacity than other students. The finding of higher female medical-student scores contrasts with some prior Brazilian WHOQOL-BREF studies. Medical students had slightly higher global IQoL than non-medical students. The practical contrast between medicine and other programmes should be interpreted cautiously because effect sizes were small.
