Medically Unexplained Syndromes

The review reframes some challenging behaviours in patients with undiagnosed or incompletely explained conditions as normal illness behaviour. Conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, functional neurological disease, musculoskeletal chest pain, and irritable bowel syndrome are collectively common but often underemphasised in curricula. Many causes of challenging encounters fall under medically unexplained or incompletely explained syndromes.
