Vitamin D's anti-proliferative effects on smooth muscle tissue are the proposed mechanism for its inhibition of uterine fibroid growth. Women with vitamin D deficiency have a 7.8 times greater likelihood of having an extended menstrual cycle duration. Women deficient in vitamin D are 13.3 times more likely to experience irregular menstrual cycles.
