Patients with M.I.N.I.-confirmed mental disorders had higher disease activity in both rheumatoid arthritis and axial spondyloarthritis. Most patients with serious mental health conditions improve when methylation status is assessed and nutrient deficiencies are addressed. Rheumatic disease patients had substantially higher mental disorder prevalence than healthy controls. Normal fear, anxiety, sadness, and stress responses are described as adaptive rather than inherently disordered. A mental disorder is defined in this framework by persistent or inappropriate symptoms due to impaired brain function. The cross-sectional design prevents determining causality between mental health and disease activity. Mood disorders, anxiety disorders, major depressive disorder, and suicidal ideation were assessed through the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview. Reported prevalence rates in refugees and asylum seekers reach 88% for PTSD, 81% for anxiety, and 80% for depression. Somatoform and stress-related disorders appeared less consistently linked to medication or therapy markers in claims data.
