Conjugation of metabolites with amino acids facilitates the body's elimination of those metabolites. Phase two of liver detoxification involves joining highly toxic and volatile metabolites with amino acids through conjugation. The metabolites produced during the initial phase of detoxification are highly toxic and volatile.
