Fatigue and tiredness were prominent symptoms among women with diagnosed mental disorders. SASS performed well in both perinatal and non-perinatal groups, supporting somatic symptom assessment in this setting. Small postural adjustments provide sensory input that keeps the brain engaged and healthy. British samples, especially white British participants, reported the highest levels of somatic symptoms. Among perinatal diagnosed cases, tiredness and lethargy was the most frequently endorsed symptom. Among non-perinatal diagnosed cases, body weakness, weakness of mind, tiredness, fatigue, and irritability were frequently endorsed. The study challenges the assumption that non-Western populations are more likely to somatise distress. The PHQ-15 measured 15 somatic symptoms in the study.
