A positive view of aging is associated with longer life in the Ohio Longitudinal Study of Aging and Retirement. Greater perceived control in a retirement-home study was linked to better health metrics and higher survival after eighteen months. Perceived control means feeling agency over life conditions and is distinct from actual control. Perceived control may matter even when actual control increases only modestly.
