No CCN produced a statistically significant change in 2-year mortality for colon cancer patients. Referral patterns and 2-year mortality showed no statistically significant effects in any CCN for pancreatic cancer. The absolute proportion of deaths was higher in men than in women. Men had a much higher adjusted mortality rate than women. Human life is contrasted with cosmic time to emphasize personal smallness. After propensity-score matching, ASCVD patients still had significantly higher 30-day and 365-day mortality than matched non-ASCVD patients. The proportional mortality ratio for anorexia nervosa alone compared with controls was 8.3 in this study, somewhat higher than earlier standardised mortality ratio estimates of 5.9 to 6.2. Kaplan-Meier curves showed progressively worse survival with more affected vascular beds. The convergence of null cost and mortality findings across the Dutch and US health systems, which differ markedly in coverage and payment structures, suggests the results may generalise beyond the Dutch context.
