Fitness can confuse completing work with moving well. Movement is treated as a learned behavior and skill rather than only a fitness output. More cranial-focused PRI material was approached with caution because its evidence base and predictability were described as less clear, with substantial trial and error. Movement and physical activity can be organized into four major qualities—knowledge, variability, power, and capacity—typically addressed in that order. The axial skeleton should support three-plane movement before distal limitations are interpreted as local restrictions. When fatigue causes movement skill to deteriorate, the person has exceeded their capacity for that skill under load. The knowledge component addresses whether a patient has accurate beliefs about pain and movement; inaccurate beliefs such as equating pain with tissue damage can limit movement and recovery. High-load, high-speed, or high-consequence activity requires better technique than low-load movement. Movement variability is defined as using multiple different strategies for the same task, and greater variability is generally beneficial up to the point where it becomes excessive or uncontrolled.
