ELISA-based urine testing is preferred for detecting mycotoxin metabolites, especially in patients with active liver detoxification. Test results do not indicate illness severity, exposure source, or timing. Mycotoxin test results reflect longer-term accumulation rather than acute exposure. Severely ill patients with negative tests may need glutathione mobilization before retesting to address possible false negatives. Testing is indicated when clinical history and symptoms are consistent with exposure. The OAT provides complementary data used to tailor treatment planning.
