The drill can help normalize neck mobility on one side of the body. The drill specifically improves the cervical spine's ability to rotate independently of the shoulder girdle. Moving the chin away from the neck prevents the common compensation of jutting the head forward. The intended sensation during the exercise is that the working side of the neck is actively engaged. The eyes should track upward toward the reaching hand, with the neck following the gaze rather than leading it. To target the left side of the neck, the head is tilted left, the chin is tucked slightly downward, and the head is barely rotated to the right. The drill is designed to improve side-bending mobility of the neck.
